Now - 8:36 p.m. Nesbitt and Teddy’s Big Adventure Nesbitt arrived home by taxi. He was weighed down by presents for all the TEZNEZCO! friends – a pair of slippers for Teddy, a stick of gelignite for Bim, a box of candies for Walter, some coloured paper for Buster and a length of climbing rope for Penguin. After visiting Duk in New York, Nesbitt was ready for a sit down and a “nice cup of tea”™, a festive gift-giving of the presents bought in New York and a rest before he would throw himself into the busy work that is TEZNEZCO! (The Company Run By Bears™). He struggled up the path to the front door of TEZNEZCO!, the bags dragging on the path behind him, and as he struggled with his keys, he pressed the front door bell with his elbow. There was no answer. Thinking that everyone must be out the back of the office near the pool, Nesbitt put the packages and bags down and put the key in the front door – but the key only went in half way. Examining the door, he realised the lock had been changed. “Well that’s a pleasant home coming,” he said to himself. He banged on the door with his small but strong paws and smashed the door knocker repeatedly. There was no sound at all. Nesbitt pushed the letter slot open and gazed down the hallway. A light was on behind some frosted glass in a distant room and Nesbitt could just make out the strains of Plastic Bertrand’s Ca Plane Pour Moi – Buster’s favourite CD. “I know you’re in there, Buster,” Nesbitt called out. “I can hear Plastic Bertrand. There’s no use pretending there’s no one here.” After a moment, the small reindeer put his head around a doorway into the hallway. “There’s no one here,” Buster said. “You’re here, let me in” Nesbitt demanded. “I have presents.” “Look, I’m just care taking,” Buster said as he carefully trotted down the slippery linoleum to the door. He pressed his furry head right up against the door so Nesbitt could only see his eye framed by the letter box slot. “What do you mean caretaking? Where is everybody?” “Teddy and the others were called away on a secret TEZNEZCO! mission. They said that I should give you these items and send you on your way.” Buster disappeared for a moment, and then an airline ticket was pushed through the slot, followed by a banana and a German phrase book. “Teddy said you’d need these.” Nesbitt looked at Buster and then at the ticket. It was a first class ticket to Ulan Bator. To Be Continued… bears in history - future bears
